    About the seating chart generator

Shuffle your seating chart in one click while still respecting what you know about your class. Start from rows, pairs, groups of four or a U-shape, then drag desks, tables and chairs until it matches your room, and save it for every class. Then add rules: keep two students apart, seat two together, or put a student near the front for an accommodation. Every shuffle follows the rules, and you can swap any two students by clicking them or lock someone in place. Your class list, rules and layout are saved in this browser, with no account.

    Ways to use it

    • A fresh seating chart every week or unit, without hours of planning.
    • IEP and 504 accommodations: front-row seats stay put through every shuffle.
    • Group work: groups of four that keep known distractions apart.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I draw my own classroom?

Yes. Press "Arrange the room" and drag chairs, desks, long desks, tables and the teacher’s desk wherever they are in your room, for example a U-shape or a horseshoe around the board. Students sit on chairs; chairs touching the same desk or table count as sitting together.

    What counts as "apart"?

Two students are apart when they are not at the same desk or table and not in neighbouring chairs, including diagonally. "Sit together" means the same desk or table, or the chair right beside them.

What if the rules can’t all be followed?

The generator tries thousands of seatings and shows the one that breaks the fewest rules, with those students and rules marked in red. Adding seats or removing a rule usually fixes it.

Is my class list uploaded anywhere?

No. Names, rules and layouts stay in your browser. Importing names from a photo also runs on your device.

    Can I print it?

Yes. Press Print for a clean chart without the controls. Turn on "Teacher’s view" first to see the room from the front of the class.
