About the d&d race wheel
Spin for your character’s race, called "species" in the 2024 rules. The wheel includes the classic options plus newer core choices like the goliath and orc. Pair it with the class and alignment wheels for a complete random character.
Ways to use it
- Random character concepts for one-shots.
- Quick NPC generation for DMs.
- Break out of always playing a human or elf.
Race or species?
The 2024 Player’s Handbook calls character races "species" and lists ten: Aasimar, Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Goliath, Halfling, Human, Orc and Tiefling. This wheel also includes Half-Elf and Half-Orc from the 2014 rules; delete those two if your table plays with the 2024 books.
Rolling a whole character
Spin the species here, then the class and alignment wheels, and build a character around the combination you get. Odd pairings often make the most memorable characters. The D&D character generator spins species, class, background and alignment together on one page.

Frequently asked questions
Is it called race or species?
The 2024 Player’s Handbook renamed race to "species". Both terms mean the same thing on this wheel.
Are half-elves and half-orcs still options?
They were core options in the 2014 rules but not the 2024 core list. Keep or remove them to match your table’s rules.
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. The winner is chosen by your browser’s random number generator before the wheel starts turning, and every slice has the same chance.
Can I save or share my wheel?
Click "Save" to keep the wheel in My wheels in this browser, or "Share wheel" to copy a link that opens your exact list on any device.
